The snoot allows you to place the light exactly where you want without spilling into other areas of the image. The Backscatter Optical Snoot OS-1 narrows the beam of light from a small spot to a tiny pinpoint. ![]() Shot by Backscatter Photo Pro James Emery of Lembeh Resort.Use the Backscatter Optical Snoot for More Precise Color Lighting Control The Backscatter Optical Snoot OS-1 works with both the Mini Flash 2, Backscatter Mini Flash MF-1 and the Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light. 4K underwater sample video footage captured with the Olympus TG-6 & Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light. The primary advantages of a strobe over a video light are larger light coverage for wider areas, the ability to freeze motion for sharper images, and easier control over color backgrounds. Because a strobe is more powerful than a video light, the strobe can be used at greater distances without light falloff. ISOs can be left at lower settings since the strobe has plenty of power. The shutter speed can be left at a high setting to knock out ambient light while having no effect on the light from the strobe. ![]() Colors and backlighting are super easy to control while using the Backscatter Color Filter System on the strobe. This makes it harder to manage multiple lighting elements, especially during the daytime. When the shutter speed is slowed down to get more of the color in the background, more unwanted ambient light creeps into the image, and it's also possible to introduce unwanted motion blur on the color light. This made it more difficult to control the background light because it has to be exposed with shutter speed, which also affects the ambient light. Compatible with Mini Flash 2, Backscatter Mini Flash MF-1, Backscatter Macro Wide 4300, and Optical Snoot OS-1.Easier to Use a Flash for Colors in Photos Than a Video Light In the past, colored backlit still photos were usually done with color filters on video lights as there was no practical way to use color filters on strobes. It’s easy to deploy and can be conveniently stored on a double-ender clip within easy reach. With 12 individual colors, the Backscatter Color Filter System has lots of possibilities for creative lighting. There is a separate color filter holder for the Backscatter Optical Snoot OS-1. The filter holder is the same for the Mini Flash 2, Backscatter Mini Flash MF-1 and the Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light. To attach the color filter set to the light or snoot, use the filter holder. There is a metal mounting ring that can take a double-ender clip for convenient clipping off to a D-ring on a BC when not in use. Each color can be individually rotated out for use without having to fumble with multiple loose filters on a dive. The color filter sets are “Swiss Army” style, with 2 protective covers on the front and back. These lighter colors are less saturated and blend better in high key style shots with a brighter background or to add a more subtle effect. ![]() The Backscatter Pastel Filter Set contains lighter shades and more subtle colors: Lavender, Light Blue, Light Green, Pink, Yellow, and Turquoise. These colors are super saturated and are great for adding a strong statement to photos and videos. The Backscatter Bold Filter Set contains bold and striking colors: Red, Blue, Purple, Green, Hot Pink, and Dark Amber. Add other objects in the background and light those secondary subjects for a new look. Combine the color filter set with regular white light, or even with multiple colors. The Backscatter Color Filter System can be used for front lighting or backlighting to give a new look to familiar subjects. The Backscatter Color Filter System is compatible with the Mini Flash 2, Backscatter Mini Flash MF-1, Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light, and Backscatter Optical Snoot OS-1.
